An immersive two-day journey into the refined artistry of freehand and foil-work balayage. This session explores the balance between placement and precision, the foundation of successful balayage and tone blending.

We work with Davines colour across all Allilon colour courses. Our focus, however, is on technique, theory and science – giving you skills that transfer confidently across any professional colour range.

This course is designed for all stylists that are confident in basic colour application, seeking to elevate their freehand and foil techniques.

Course Schedule

The first day builds a foundation in technique placement, use of pre lighteners and toning, before moving into a interactive freehand workshop – developing, confidence and a refined eye for balance.

Morning (10:00 – 13:00)
Open discussions on choice of techniques and choice of formulation.
Interactive freehand workshop on mannequins with short demonstrations and oppoortunities for one to one tuition.

Afternoon (14:00–17:00)
Guided application on mannequins using global colour and freehand application.

Group Review and Roundup
Shared observations, troubleshooting and key technical takeaways before breaking for the day.

The second day unites technical precision and placement – exploring foil application and toning to create harmony and depth – with guidance on finishing and styling.

Morning (10:00–13:00)
Interactive workshop on mannequins with short demos focussed on mastering methodical foil work.

Afternoon (14:00–17:00)
Interactive workshop focusing on toning, root blending and with the usual emphasis on one to one tuition.

Our academy is a beautiful creative space located in Holborn/Covent Garden in central London. The space is on the 4th floor of a listed Georgian Townhouse and boasts great light, original features and high ceilings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most of our courses, with the exception of the "Get Inspired" taster course, run with a strict ratio of eight students to one teacher. Our extremely low student teacher ratio means that you receive personalised feedback and guidance specific to you and your needs, enabling you to achieve your best and gain the very most from your time with us.

For cutting courses you would need to bring: scissors, a cutting comb, sectioning clips, a hairdryer with a nozzle, a diffuser, straightening irons, a vess brush, a paddle brush, water spray, a neck brush

For the colour courses: a pin tail comb, a tinting comb, waterspray, avess brush & a paddle brush

For cutting and colour courses: scissors, cutting comb, cutting comb, pin tail comb, tinting comb, vess brush, paddle brush, neck brush, hairdryer, straightening irons, diffuser, water spray & sectioning clips

We will also send you an email before your course confirming all the required tools for your course.

Our Academy is located in the heart of the West-End on the 4th floor of stunning central London hair salon (and sister compnay) – Ena. The address is 5 Great Queen Street, London WC2B 5DG map. The nearest London Underground stations are Holborn (3 minute walk) & Covent Garden (6 minute walk).

One of our highly experienced educators will be teaching you. As our educators frequently travel for international courses, shows, and seminars, we do not assign a fixed educator to each course. Your instructor will be confirmed close to the course date.

Yes, mannequins are provided and covered in the price of the course. We use Allilon real hair mannequins on all our academy courses.
